Maureen Clark in St.Helens, aged 51, has recently completed her NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care with CTS Training.

CTS Training Assessor Gail Mahoney has nominated Maureen for our ‘Learner of the Quarter Award’ because of her desire and outstanding dedication to complete her NVQ and become a qualified Senior Carer despite having no experience working in care. Gail explains, “Maureen is a very helpful individual with a professional and caring approach. However when I first met her she new very little about working in care and lacked a great deal in confidence. Now she is not only a quality Senior Carer, oozing confidence, she has an NVQ qualification that matches her skills and job role helping and guiding all new staff, the transformation is fantastic”.

Maureen has only been employed at St Helens Hall, an Orchard Care Home, for less than 2 years. Prior to this she worked as a machinist in a factory for over 30 years. She moved to St Helens Hall in 2008 as a house keeper to work along side her daughter. Maureen loved spending time with the residents but never thought she would be able to start a new career as a care assistant at the age of 49, especially with no experience. Chris Woods, Care Manager for St Helens Hall, gave Maureen the confidence to take that step. Chris elaborates on Maureen’s considerate manner saying, “Maureen has a natural caring nature, I could see how much she enjoyed talking and getting to know the residents and knew it would be the best move for everyone involved. I have now gained a qualified Senior Carer who works extremely hard and is loved by all the residents. It is these qualities amongst others that CTS Assessor Gail saw whilst working closely with Maureen. She is a credit to us all”. Within the 2 years Maureen has moved from a House Keeper to a Care Assistant to Senior Carer. To get there she has completed her NVQ L2 and L3 in Health and Social Care through CTS Training. Maureen says “I had very little confidence and no experience and with the help from Gail my assessor I have now achieved so much. She is a superb lady who has supported and guided me step by step to achieve my goals. My NVQ did not interfere with my personal life whatsoever, it has been brilliant, I could not have asked for more”. Maureen’s only regret is that she wishes she had gone into care earlier and completed her NVQ’s sooner, “I love everything about my job and loved completing my NVQ’s with CTS Training”. CTS Training work alongside Orchard Care Homes to help qualify all their staff at all their care homes. This ensure that the highest standard of care is delivered to all their residents at all times, as well as motivating and developing staff members.
